How to Induce Labor At Home
So it?s week 40, 41, 42 ? and still no baby. While
all babies? due dates are typically during the 40th week of
pregnancy of their mothers, most babies are born after this due
date. This is why doctors don?t panic, even when a soon-to-be mother
has been pregnant for two weeks too long. But days after the due
date, it can all grow a bit tedious and become overwhelmingly
frustrating and physically uncomfortable for the anxious
mommy-to-be. It?s at this point when she might wonder how to induce labor at
home.
If your or your unborn baby?s health is at risk, a
doctor will usually recommend a medically induced labor or caesarian
section. But if you?re just a little or a lot overdue, there are
some less abrasive methods for inducing labor.
Here is how to induce labor at
home:
Spice it up
Eating spicy foods on a regular basis can help
induce your labor ? but an even more fun way to kick start your
contractions is to spice it up in the bedroom. When a female has
intercourse, a hormone called oxytocin is released and it causes her
uterus to contract. Moreover, the male produces semen, which
contains prostaglandis that softens the female?s cervix. It?s common
for women to feel decidedly un-sexy and/or apathetic when they?re
over 40 weeks pregnant. Thus, they may be unwilling to engage in
sex, but it is a great way to speed through that third act and get
to the long-anticipated finale: the birth. If you?re simply not in
the mood though, you or your partner can massage your nipples. This
has a similar effect of intercourse. To that degree, if you are
still breastfeeding a toddler, this is a form of nipple stimulation
as well. Some in the medical community question this practice
however.
Pineapples!
Yes, if you eat lots of pineapples, your labor may
be induced earlier!
Herbs
Natural herbs are probably one of the most popular
answers for those who ask how to induce labor at home. Examples
include blue and black cohosh. (There is controversy about their
safety however.) Oils, like Caster Oil (to drink) and teas, like Red
Rasberry Leaf Tea, are also common recommendations for labor
inducing home remedies.
Take a Walk
Perhaps one of the easiest ways to induce your
labor is to take a walk or two around the block, march up and down
the stairs, or just stay somewhat physically active. This causes the
baby?s head to press down on your cervix.
The Right Touch
A series of acupressure or acupuncture treatments
is one of the most effective ways to induce labor
naturally. Acupuncture, of course, requires making an
appointment with a trained practitioner, but acupressure is
something your partner can easily give you while in the comfort of
your own home!
It?s typical for unborn babies to have a case of
stage fright, so unless you?re nearing your 41st or 42nd week of
pregnancy, it might just be best to sit down, relax, and wait for
your baby to induce the labor ? not for herbs to.
